Review – Committee Hearings – Week of 6-8-25

With both the House and Senate in session, there is a relatively full schedule of hearings. While budget hearings continue in both the House and Senate, the House starts marking up FY 2026 spending bills. We also have a House AI and cybersecurity hearing, and a DOD oversight hearing. In the Senate there will be votes on some Homeland Security appointments.

Budget Hearings

Various committees in both houses continue to hold hearings looking at the President’s budget requests for various agencies. Hearing of interest here include:

Spending Bills

The House Appropriations Committee begins marking up FY 2026 spending bills this week.

• DHS, Subcommittee Markup – Monday; Full Committee Markup – Thursday,

• DOD, Subcommittee Markup – Tuesday; Full Committee Markup – Thursday,

• MilCon, Subcommittee Markup – Tuesday,

ARD, Subcommittee Markup – Wednesday.

Cybersecurity

On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection of the House Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing on “Security to Model: Securing Artificial Intelligence to Strengthen Cybersecurity”.

DOD Oversight

On Tuesday (before their DOD spending markup hearing) the Subcommittee on Defense of the House Appropriations Committee will hold a DOD oversight hearing. The witness list includes:

• General Dan Caine, Chair JCS, and

• Secretary Hegseth, DOD

DHS Appointments

On Thursday, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a business meeting that will consider six nominations, three of which will be for positions within the Department of Homeland Security. Of specific interest here are the nominations of:

• Sean Cairncross to be National Cyber Director, and

• Sean Plankey to be Director, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency

On the Floor

The House is scheduled to take up 12 bills under their suspension of the rules process this week. Of particular interest here:

HR 2390 – Maritime Supply Chain Security Act, and

HR 1182 – Compressed Gas Cylinder Safety and Oversight Improvements Act of 2025
