Yesterday, the Senate confirmed two nominations for the US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB). By unanimous consent (no debate, no vote) the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee was discharged from further consideration and the following nominations were confirmed:
Catherine J.K. Sandoval, of California, to be a Member of Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board for a term of five years, and
Stephen A. Owens, of Arizona, to be Chairperson of the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board for a term of five years.
Owens has served as a member of the CSB for almost a year now, and has been acting as interim chair since July, 2022.
Sandoval was
nominated by President Biden back in June. Sandoval is a law professor
at Santa Clara University in California and has served on the California Public
Utilities Commission. She has accident investigation experience from her time
at CPUC.
