Yesterday, Rep Slotkin (D,MI) was added as cosponsor to HR 8806, the Healthcare Cybersecurity Act of 2022. That bill would require CISA to work with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to improve cybersecurity in the Healthcare and Public Health Sector. Slotkin is a member of the House Homeland Security Committee to which this bill was assigned for consideration.
Normally, the addition of a cosponsor after almost
three-months is of little importance, but neither the bills’ sponsor {Rep
Crow(D,CO)} nor his original cosponsor {Rep Fitzpatrick (R,PA)} are members of
the Committee, so there was little chance that the bill would be considered by
the Committee. The addition of Slotkin would provide the needed influence to
see the bill considered. With just a week or two left in the Session, it makes
little difference; the Committee is unlikely to clear the bill for consideration
by the full House.
