This afternoon the House
rejected HR 1947, the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act,
on a vote
of 195 – 234. Sixty-two conservative Republicans voted against the bill,
killing any chance of passage. The Democrats maintained somewhat better party
unity against the bill with only 24 voting in favor of passage.
Obviously, this also killed the chemical
security amendment that was added to the bill yesterday in floor action. I
suspect that this will make it into either the spending or authorization bill
for the USDA.
