Committee Hearings – Week of 2-11-24

This week, with the Senate heading home for a late start to their two week homestand and the House just arriving in town, there is a fairly light hearing schedule and its mainly political. There is one markup hearing of potential interest here.

Markup Hearing

On Thursday the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology of the House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a markup hearing looking at five pieces of legislation; only one of which is of potential interest here:

HR____, Removing Our Unsecure Technologies to Ensure Reliability and Security (ROUTERS) Act

This bill will probably be introduced today. The Committee print is a relatively short bill that would require NTIA to conduct a “study of the national security risks posed by routers, modems, and devices that combine a modem and router that are designed, developed, manufactured, or supplied by persons owned by, controlled by, or subject to the jurisdiction or direction of a covered country.” The list of covered countries includes the standard list of modern day adversaries with the addition of a relatively new electronic power house, Venezuela (sigh).
