Chemical Incident Reporting – Week of 2-3-24

NOTE: See here for series background.

Tulane University, LA – 2-5-24

Local News Reports: Here, here, and here.

A 1-gallon chlorine dioxide spill in a chemical laboratory resulted in one person being transported to hospital. No word on if that person was admitted.

This was probably a chlorine dioxide solution (typically a 2% solution is used as a bleaching agent), as pure ClO2 is a gas above 11° C and is extremely toxic and unstable (see reactivity comment on Cameo for ClO2).

Possible CSB reportable, depending on if person was admitted
