The DOT’s Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) published a public
meeting notice in Monday’s Federal Register (available on-line today; 79 FR
27032) for a meeting of the RTCA
Special Committee 224 concerning Airport Security Access Control Systems. These
access control systems do not include TSA passenger screening areas. The
meeting will be held on June 3rd, 2014 in Washington, DC.
According to the notice the agenda includes:
• Updates from the TSA;
• Review and Discussion of PMC
[RTCA Program Management Committee] Decisions on DO-230D—Standard
for Airport Security Access Control Systems;
• Review of DO-230D
Sections—Determine Required Update Sequence; and
• Terms of Reference—Discuss
Possible Revisions
The meeting is open to the public but there is only limited
seating available. The Chair may allow public presentations. To get advance
approval for such presentations contact the RTCA Secretariat at (202) 833-9339.
NOTE: No I’m not taking this blog specifically into airport
security. On the other hand, airports have many of the same security issues
(outside of passenger areas) that can be found at large chemical facilities, an
extensive (and usually poorly patrolled) perimeter and few internal movement
controls. Lessons learned, and standards set, in airport security could
certainly be applied to chemical facility security.

This is so interesting. Access control systems are very important, especially for companies with hazardous and valuable materials. Do access control systems come with insurance?
