Review – Committee Hearings – Week of 1-12-25

With both the House and Senate in session during the last week of the Biden Administration, committees in the House starts their organizational meetings. The Senate starts the process of approving Trump nominees with Committee hearings on the ‘expected nominees’ (nominations are not ‘real’ until after the inauguration).

It is interesting that the House Rules Committee still does not have any meetings scheduled, even though one bill last week was passed ‘under a rule’ and three bills are scheduled to be considered ‘under a rule’ this week. Until the Rules Committee gets organized and starts holding hearings, ‘under a rule’ means that a simple majority vote is required for passage. The debate and amendment processes are ad hoc under the ‘control’ of the appropriate committee chairs and ranking members.

The other thing that we are waiting for from House committees is the update of their web sites. A number of old URLs for many pages of those sites are still returning ‘404’ error messages.
