Thanks to Richard Rosera, a long time reader and CSB commentator, for pointing me at the recently published Performance and Accountability Report Fiscal Year 2023 from the Chemical Safety Board. According to the introductory material from CSB Chair Steve Owens:
“The information provided in this Performance and Accountability Report (PAR) offers fiscal and programmatic accountability to the American people regarding our stewardship of the funds that have been entrusted to us for fulfillment of our mission in Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. The results also summarize our success in achieving CSB performance goals for FY 2023.”
For the most part this is a typical, ‘we done good’ corporate report. This report includes lots of good information about the accomplishments of CBS in FY 2023 and some of the administrative problems with which the agency is dealing.
I am really glad that Richard shared the link to this
report. It can be found on the CSB website (CSB
Performance and Accountability Reports page) but you would have to be
periodically looking at that page to know that it has been updated. Since that
page is only updated once per year, this is a pretty effectively buried report.
Fortunately, there is usually someone who enjoys watching for this type of
buried data for most government agencies. Richard is the go-to guy for the CSB.
For more information about selected data in the report,
including new hire list and on-going incident response data, see my article at
