Last month, the House took up HR 1345, the NTIA Policy and Cybersecurity Coordination Act, under the suspension of the rules process. The bill passed on a voice vote. The lack of a demand for a recorded vote would tend to indicate that the bill could be considered successfully in the Senate under their unanimous consent process after the Senate returns from their summer recess in September.
The bill would amend the NTIA Organization Act, adding a new
§106, Office of Policy Development and Cybersecurity. The current Associate
Administrator for Policy Analysis and Development at the NTIA would be
redesignated as the position of Associate Administrator for Policy Development
and Cybersecurity. The new organization would be
responsible for overseeing and conducting “national communications and
information policy analysis and development for the internet and communications
technologies.”
