Back in May, the House Energy and Commerce Committee published their Report on HR 1345 the NTIA Policy and Cybersecurity Coordination Act. The bill was considered in a markup hearing on March 23rd, 2023, and ordered reported favorably without amendment by a unanimous vote. The bill would establish the Office of Policy Development and Cybersecurity that would be responsible for overseeing and conducting “national communications and information policy analysis and development for the internet and communications technologies.”
Moving Forward
With the publication of the report, the bill is now cleared
for action by the full House. The unanimous vote means that this bill would
probably be considered by the full House under the suspension of the rules
process. The House has not been as active as past sessions in considering bills
in this manner, so there is no telling when this bill could be considered.
