This week the Congressional Research Service published “Federal Cybersecurity: Background and Issues for Congress”. The document looks at current federal cybersecurity management and outlines options for Congress to modify those management practices. The options that the document outlines include:
• Positive law changes,
• Mandatory reporting,
• Resource levels,
• Shared services, and
• New cybersecurity services.
While most of the options above are targeted at Federal government agencies, the mandatory reporting options discussed here include requiring private entities to report cybersecurity incidents.
CRS reports provide background information for members and congressional
staffs.
