I would like to mention in passing the introduction and passage of HR 5434,
the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2021. This bill provides continued
authorization for DOT surface transportation activities through October 31st,
2021, or until HR 3684 is enacted into law. This bill was necessary because the
House leadership has still not worked out a final version of that bill that
would be acceptable in the Senate. The Senate is scheduled to take up this bill
today.
