Columbia, SC – 3-1-25
Local News Report: Here, here, here, and here.
There was cleaning-chemical mixing incident at a restaurant resulting in three people being transported to the hospital for treatment. The two cleaning chemicals were poured into a blocked drain.
No mention of the chemicals involved but these situations are typically mixtures of bleach-based products and an ammonia-based product with the mixture producing heat and chlorine gas. Gas concentrations would have been highest (and most dangerous) near the drain. With a blocked drain this also could have been a drain cleaner and a bleach-based cleaner.
Possible CSB reportable depending on if any of the three
taken to the hospital were admitted.
