With both the House and Senate continuing to work in their
districts (fund raising and campaigning principally) during the 4th
of July Recess, there is a healthy list of virtual hearing taking place in the
House. The full Appropriations Committee will be marking up spending bills and
there is an informational hearing on HR 7331, creating the Office of the National
Cyber Director in the White House.
Spending Bills (Full Committee)
HR 7331
On Wednesday the House Oversight and Reform Committee will
hold a
hearing on “H.R. 7331, the National Cyber Director Act”. The witness list
includes:
• Rep Mike Gallagher (R,WI),
• Rep James R. Langevin (D,RI),
• J. Michael Daniel, Cyber Threat
Alliance,
• Jamil N. Jaffer, National
Security Institute,
• Michael J. Rogers, Center for the
Study of the Presidency & Congress,
• Suzanne Spaulding, Center for
Strategic & International Studies, and
• Amit Yoran, Tenable
The GPO has not yet printed HR 7331 (hopefully this week),
but the Committee
Staff Memo provides an overview of its provisions. Nothing in that review
that specifically addresses control system security issues (not surprising),
but this bill is attempting to restore a measure of cybersecurity policy
awareness in the White House.
