Yesterday with both the House and Senate meeting in pro
forma sessions there were 78 bills introduced. Two of these bills may receive
additional coverage in this blog:
HR
7530 To direct the Attorney General to make grants to assist local
educational agencies in developing and implementing plans to address
cybersecurity threats or vulnerabilities, and for other purposes. Rep.
Harder, Josh [D-CA-10]
HR
7566 To allow the Administrator of the General Services Administration to
transfer certain surplus computers and technology equipment to nonprofit
computer refurbishers for repair and distribution, and for other purposes. Rep. Spanberger, Abigail Davis [D-VA-7]
Okay, both of these bills are a bit of a stretch for potential
consideration in this blog, but they both have some unique attributes that may
be interesting.
Of course I will be watching HR 7530 for language and
definitions that would make it specifically apply to control systems, but I am
more interested in why Harder thinks that the Department of Justice is the
appropriate agency for this education grant program.
Not going to hold my breath on language and definitions in
HR 7566 that would apply to control system technology, but interested in seeing
if bill will require certification that memory devices are checked for presence
of PII or sensitive data before sending them to refurbishers.
