As the House and Senate get ready to leave Washington for a
long weekend in the House and for a week in their home State in the Senate
there were 72 bills introduced. Of those, three may be of specific interest to
readers of this blog:
HR 3968
To amend the Small Business Act to provide loan guarantees for the acquisition
of cybersecurity technology and services by eligible small businesses, and for
other purposes. Rep.
Schneider, Bradley Scott [D-IL-10]
HR
3985 To establish a working group of public and private entities led by the
Food and Drug Administration to recommend voluntary frameworks and guidelines
to increase the security and resilience of Internet of Medical Things devices,
and for other purposes. Rep.
Trott, David A. [R-MI-11]
S
1934 A bill to prevent catastrophic failure or shutdown of remote diesel
power engines due to emission control devices, and for other purposes. Sen.
Sullivan, Dan [R-AK]
It will be interesting to see what definitions of
cybersecurity HR 3968 uses to see if the loan program would include support for
control system cybersecurity.
A new cyber term (Internet of Medical Things – IoMT) has
been introduced in the description of HR 3985. It will be interesting to see if
the language of the bill uses the term, and, if so, how it is defined.
S 1934 is about a specific type of control system and it
will be interesting to see what definitions are used. I would like to be able
to say that I expect to see some cybersecurity language in the bill, but I am
not that naïve. But, I can always hope.
