CSB to Hold Imperial Sugar Public Meeting
While this may not be strictly speaking chemical security news, the Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) announced today that they would be holding a public meeting in Savannah, GA on 9-24-09 to discuss the results of their investigation into the Imperial Sugar Refinery explosion of February 2008.
That sugar dust explosion took the lives of 14 workers (eight on scene, six in the burn wards of local hospitals) and injured an additional 36. The CSB had previously warned of the dangers of dust explosions and had urged OSHA to take a proactive role in preventing them. It will be interesting to see if OSHA continues to ignore the industrial safety recommendations of the CSB.
