Today, the Chemical Safety Board published a meeting notice in the Federal Register (87 FR 41280) for a virtual quarterly meeting of the Board on July 29th, 2022. This will be conducted via Zoom® and the connection information is provided in the Notice.
According to the notice:
“The Board will review the CSB's progress in meeting its mission and highlight current investigations and safety recommendations.”
This meeting will be the first held by the Board without Katherine Lemos as the Chair. She resigned back in June, effective on July 22nd, 2022. There a will only be two of the authorized five Board members potentially at the meeting. Two others are pending Senate confirmation and there has not yet been a nomination for the fifth member. Lemos, a Trump appointee, was the sole Board member for a large portion of the Trump administration. The two initial Biden appointees were confirmed last December.
Items of potential interest that could (should?) come up at
the nearing include a lengthy
backlog of ‘current investigations’
(17 open investigations dating back to 8-12-16). This backlog is part of the
reason that the Board has not initiated any new investigations in almost a year
(July 27th will be one year).
