Yesterday with just the Senate in session (the House has
already left for their extended summer recess), there were 24 bills introduced.
Of those only one may be of specific interest to readers of this blog:
S
1691 A bill to provide minimal cybersecurity operational standards for
Internet-connected devices purchased by Federal agencies, and for other
purposes. Sen. Warner, Mark R. [D-VA]
This bill received a lot of press notice yesterday (see here
and here
for example), deservedly so. The official GPO copy of the bill is not yet
available, but Warner’s office has included a
link (scribd.com) to a draft of the bill in their press
release yesterday. A quick look at the bill shows much better (but still
not complete) understanding of cybersecurity issues than we typically expect
from Congress. I’ll have a more thorough review posted later today.
