Yesterday the House passed HR 2756, the Frank R. Lautenberg
Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act (TSCA reform) by a wildly bipartisan vote of 403 – 12. The debate
on the bill (pgs H3025-H3031) consumed
40 minutes, but it was hardly a debate. The list of supporters speaking in
support of the bill was impressive in its political diversity.
The bill will go to the Senate (possibly this week). As
surprising as this may seem since this has been a touchstone political topic
for the last ten years, the bill could actually be considered under the Senate’s
unanimous consent process with no debate and no vote.
