Bills Introduced – 11-13-23

Yesterday, with both the House and Senate in Session, there were 42 bills introduced. Two of those bills may receive additional coverage in this blog:

HR 6363 Further Continuing Appropriations and Other Extensions Act, 2024 Granger, Kay [Rep.-R-TX-12]

HR 6372 To amend the National Quantum Initiative Act to require the Secretary of Energy to conduct research on how quantum information science, technology, and engineering can enhance the resilience and security of the electric grid, and for other purposes.

I will be covering HR 6363. A Rules Committee print of the bill is available.

I will be watching HR 6372 for language and definitions that specifically include cybersecurity for grid operations within the scope of the coverage of the bill.

Mention in Passing

I would like to mention (but will not cover here) a piece of space commerce legislation:

HR 6385 To promote space situational awareness and space traffic coordination and to modify the functions and leadership of the Office of Space Commerce, and for other purposes. Kean, Thomas H. [Rep.-R-NJ-7]

As private venture space commerce continues to expand, its regulation and oversight by the federal government is going to become more important. This will get more complicated as more private ventures outside of the United States start to become involved.
