Committee Hearings – Week of 5-1-22

This week with just the Senate in Washington, there is a full slate of hearings with FY 2023 Budget hearings leading the way. There will also be a DHS oversight hearing and a cyber operations hearing.

FY 2023 Budget Hearings

5-3-22 Senate DOD Defense Subcommittee, Appropriations Committee,

5-3-22 Senate DOT Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee,

5-4-22 Senate DHS DHS Subcommittee, Appropriations Committee,

5-4-22 Senate DOE EWR Subcommittee, Appropriations Committee,

Cyber Operations

On Tuesday, the Cyber Subcommittee of the Senate Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing on “To receive testimony on artificial intelligence applications to operations in cyberspace”. The witness list includes:

• Andrew Moore, Google Corporation,

• Eric Horvitz, Microsoft Corporation, and

• Andrew Lohn, Georgetown University

This is not a cybersecurity hearing, but cybersecurity issues will certainly be raised and discussed.

DHS Oversight

On Wednesday, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will be holding a hearing on “Resources and Authorities Needed to Protect and Secure the Homeland”. The sole witness will be Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas. Major questions from Republicans will continue to be on border issues, but there will be discussions about cybersecurity operations.
