Simple Rule for HR 2112

The House Rules Committee met today to formulate the rule (House Resolution 467) for floor consideration of HR 2112, the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act, 2012. As with the rules for most conference reports, this will be a straight forward closed rule with an hour of debate followed by a vote.

The interesting point in the Rules Committee hearing was when Chairman Rogers (R,KY) was asked about the prospects for completing the remaining spending bills. He responded that he hoped the Senate would complete action on the remaining bills, but he felt there would be a ‘rest-of-the-bus’ bill to finish the spending legislation for the fiscal year. No word yet on if that would include DHS, but it is very likely. One point that he did firmly make, the spending bills would be completed before the end of the year.

Final point, as with all continuing resolutions in recent history, the spending extension will include an extension of the CFATS program authorization; this time thru 12-16-11.
