This week, with both the House and Senate in Washington to start the Second Session of the 118th Congress, there is a light schedule for committee hearings. The only hearing of potential interest here deals with communications cybersecurity.

On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology of the House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on “Safeguarding Americans' Communications: Strengthening Cybersecurity in a Digital Era”. No witness list is currently available.

Tonight’s evening session in the House will start off with a
formal opening of 2nd Session with a recorded quorum call. This vote
will reflect the even thinner Republican control of the House, with Rep
McCarthy’s resignation last month and Majority Leader Scalise (R,LA) out
for at least the month of January recovering from stem cell therapy for his
cancer. This will be further aggravated by the departure later this month of Rep
Johnson (R,OH) to become president of Youngstown State University. Depending on
who shows up for votes, Republicans could be relying on a one or two vote
majority for many votes, with possible periodic Democratic majorities.
