Yesterday there were 74 bills introduced in the House and
Senate. Only two of those will likely be of specific interest to readers of
this blog:
HR 1770
To require certain entities who collect and maintain personal information of
individuals to secure such information and to provide notice to such
individuals in the case of a breach of security... Rep.
Blackburn, Marsha [R-TN-7]
HR 1789
To ensure the safety of DOT-111 tank cars by improving standards for new tank
cars and upgrading existing tank cars, and for other purposes. Rep.
Payne, Donald M., Jr. [D-NJ-10]
Unless HR 1770 contains provisions that affect industrial
control systems (unlikely) this will be the last mention of that bill in this
blog.
It looks like HR 1789 is the latest entry into the crude oil
train safety discussion. As more of these types of bills are introduced, the
more likely it is that Congress will actually address some of the issues
involved.
