Thanks to Bryan Haywood over at SAFTENG.net for pointing
out this recently published Chemical
Advisory for the safe storage, handling and management of ammonium nitrate.
This is a joint publication of the US Environmental Protection Agency, the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The document provides a very good discussion about the
hazards that are associated with the storage and handling of ammonium nitrate.
It also provides an extensive bibliography of sources of additional
information. This document should be read, studied and implemented by anyone
that stores ammonium nitrate, will potentially respond to a fire or other
incident involving ammonium nitrate and any legislators wishing to take action
to prevent future accidents like the West Fertilizer explosion.
