As I mentioned in an earlier blog (see "Farm Bill Contains Chemical Security Provisions"), the Farm Bill contains some Chemical Facility Security Provisions. As such I am monitoring progress on the bill. Yesterday the House declined to accept the Senate amendments to the legislation. The bill now goes to conference to work out the differences between the Senate and House versions.
The Speaker appointed conferees from a number of different committees that had interests in different provisions of the legislation. The Homeland Security Committee was not one of the committees represented. The conferees were directed to "disagree to any provision which will result in an increase in taxes". None of the chemical security provisions required increases in taxes.
