NIST Smart Grid Advisory Committee Meeting

Today the National Institute of Standards and Technology published a notice in the Federal Register (76 FR 46279) that the Smart Grid Advisory Committee would be holding a public meeting in support of the preparation of their draft report on Smart Grid standards. The meeting will be held via teleconference on August 23rd.

The notice does not provide any details about which portions of the report will be discussed at this meeting. It does provide a link to the Committee web site where that information will be posted at some undisclosed future date. One area that is likely to be included in the discussion is the establishment of cybersecurity standards for the Smart Grid. The minutes from last fall’s meeting specifically noted that NIST is responsible for writing “cybersecurity standards for the federal government” (pg 9).

Public participation in the teleconference is being encouraged. Registration is required and may be accomplished by providing your name, e-mail address, and phone number to Cuong Nguyen at cuong.nguyen@nist.gov by August 16th. Written comments may be submitted via by e-mail to nistsgfac@nist.gov.
