CSSS Potential Threats and SAR Briefings

I haven’t written about any of the presentations at this year’s Chemical Sector Security Summit since I wrote about the slide presentations becoming available. One of the main reasons is that Ryan Loughin has been periodically reviewing the presentations over on his blog at ChemicalProcessing.com. He has a distinct advantage in writing about them as he was actually there and heard the speaker; that’s always a better way to review a presentation.

His latest post on the potential threats program is even better because he was the host of that panel discussion. Unfortunately, only the Carafano presentation from this panel is available on line.

Ryan also addresses in this post the Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) panel discussion. The DHS/DOJ presentation by Steve King is available on-line, but Ryan’s blog also briefly describes some of the additional information provided by other speakers on that panel.

Lacking a video copy of the presentations, I suggest following the postings on Ryan’s blog. I’ll either mention them here or in my TWITTER posts.

Another CFATS Seminar

It’s a new year and it seems like CFATS webinars are popping up all over the place, like daffodils in an early spring. Last week I received an email inviting me to register for one put on by ChemicalProcessing.com. The webinar is scheduled for March 17th at 1:00 EST. The three presenters are all well known in the industry and have been mentioned a number of times in this blog, two of them as CFATS bloggers (Ryan Loughin and Steve Roberts) and the other as a source of information on Congress (William Allmond). Any one of these on the bill for a webinar would ensure that it would be worthwhile.

According to the information provided in the email:

• Loughin “will discuss capital vs. operating costs, asset vs. facility, value engineering and more”;

• Roberts “will discuss the interaction with DHS Inspectors; Corporate and Site Preparation for CFATS Authorization Visits; and the differences between CFATS Pre-Authorization Inspections and CFATS Authorization Inspections”; and

• Allmond “will review the latest updates on material modifications and personal surety and more”.
