Looking Back – October 14th, 2008

Nearly every morning I start my computer time by looking at information from Google about what happened in my blog in the previous 24 hours. Google, and blogspot.com is a Google service, provides interesting pieces of analytical data about my blog readership. One item of particular interest is the top ten blog posts each day. As you would expect, most of those posts were from the last couple of days, but with 16 years of publishing this blog, every once-in-a-while, a blog post from ancient history rises into that list.

Today a blog post from October 14th, 2008, Push for New Chemical Facility Security Law, showed up on the list. This post was about the ongoing push by environmental groups to come up with a more comprehensive version of still relatively new Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards. Unfortunately, the link to the article discussed in the post now returns a 404-error message, not unusual for these older posts.

The real interesting thing about this post is the comment that was posted to it. This is about as close to a ‘flame war’ as has been seen in this blog. While I do moderate comments, I do not filter out opposing views, or even personal attacks (to be fair, this one is as bad as they have gotten, and this was far from over the top), as long as they contribute to the discussion.
