Chemical Transportation Incidents – Week of 3-14-26

Data from PHMSA’s online database of transportation related chemical incidents that have been reported to the agency. 

Incidents Summary  

• Number of incidents – 551 (510 highway, 39 air, 2 rail, 0 water) 

• Serious incidents – 0 (0 Bulk release, 1 evacuation, injury, 0 death, 1 major artery closed, 1 fire/explosion, 50 no release)  

• Largest container involved – 32,875-gal Railcar {Hydrochloric AcidImproper preparation for transportation. 

• Largest amount spilled – 75-gal PlasticIBC {Paint Including Paint, Lacquer, Enamel, Stain, Shellac Solutions, Varnish, Polish, Liquid Filler And Liquid Lacquer Base} Forklift puncture. 

• Total amount reported spilled in all incidents – 1,402.1-gal
