Chemical Transportation Incidents – Week of 2-28-26

 Reporting Background

Data from PHMSA’s online database of transportation related chemical incidents that have been reported to the agency. 

Incidents Summary   

• Number of incidents – 424 (382 highway, 35 air, 7 rail, 0 water) 

• Serious incidents – 3 (3 Bulk release, 0 evacuation, 0 injury, 0 death, 0 major artery closed, 5 fire33 no release)  

• Largest container involved – 33,656-gal DOT 112J340W Railcar {Petroleum Gases, Liquefied or Liquefied Petroleum GasLiquid line valve slightly open and the plug less than tool tight. 

• Largest amount spilled – 7303-gal Unspecified DOT Truck {Nitrogen, Refrigerated Liquid (Cryogenic Liquid)Trailer-tire fire destroyed gasket upstream of pressure builder. 

• Total amount reported spilled in all incidents – 10,779.4-gal
