Yesterday, with the Senate in Washington and the House meeting in pro forma session, there were 108 bills introduced. Two of those bills may receive additional coverage in this blog:
HR 1005 To amend title 18, United States Code, to reauthorize and expand the National Threat Assessment Center of the Department of Homeland Security. Diaz-Balart, Mario [Rep.-R-FL-26]
S 411 A bill to amend title 18, United States Code, to reauthorize and expand the National Threat Assessment Center of the Department of Homeland Security. Grassley, Chuck [Sen.-R-IA]
I will be watching these two bills for language and definitions that would affect the coverage of cybersecurity threats by the Secret Service NTAC.
I would also like to mention a bill in passing, HR
1009 introduced by Rep Donalds (R,FL). It would To require the President
develop a national strategy for utilizing microreactors to assist with natural
disaster response efforts. I am not sure how serious a suggestion this actually
is, but Florida sure sees its share of natural disasters that shut down power
generation and transmission for prolonged periods of time. I do not think that
this is practical at this time, but if money were thrown at developing this
capability, it would probably be fruitful. Oh, but Donalds is one of the
anti-spending Republicans, so that is not going to happen…
