This evening the House passed
HR 2786, the Cross-Border Rail Security Act of 2015, under suspension of
the rules. With limited debate (just six minutes) and no floor amendments, the
bill was passed by a vote
of 412 to 0.
As I mentioned in an
earlier post, this bill continues the Congressional obsession with the
possible smuggling of nuclear or radiological devices into the United States
while ignoring the much more common threat of large shipments of toxic inhalation
hazard chemicals that frequently enter the country by rail without being
checked for potential improvised explosive devices.
