Data from PHMSA’s online database of transportation related chemical incidents that have been reported to the agency.

Incidents Summary

• Number of incidents – 421 (364 highway, 50 air, 7 rail, 0 water)

• Serious incidents – 3 (3 Bulk release, 0 evacuation, 1 injury, 0 death, 0 major artery closed, 0 fire/explosion, 29 no release)

• Largest container involved – 195,500-gal (some sort of typo) DOT 117J100W, Railcar {Elevated Temperature Liquid, Flammable, N.O.S.} Vapor valve line open w/o cap.

• Largest amount spilled – 250-gal IBC {Ethanol or Ethyl Alcohol or Ethanol Solutions or Ethyl Alcohol Solutions} Punctured by fork lift.
