With the House and Senate preparing to leave Washington for
a week working in their home districts (House is in session today), there were
74 bills introduced yesterday. Of these, one may be of specific interest to
readers of this blog:

A bill to provide grants to State, local, territorial, and tribal law
enforcement agencies to purchase chemical screening devices and train personnel
to use chemical screening devices in order to enhance law enforcement
efficiency and protect law enforcement officers. Sen.
Brown, Sherrod [D-OH]
While I suspect that this bill may be a reaction to fentanyl
exposure issues amongst law enforcement personnel, I will be watching to see if
the definition of ‘chemical screening devices’ would include detectors that
could warn officers of the presence of dangerous industrial chemicals.
