Review – Public ICS Disclosures – Week of 3-5-22 – Part 1

It has been a busy week, even without the 2nd Tuesday disclosures. This will be a three-part report. This week we have thirteen vendor disclosures from Boston Scientific, Broadcom, Carestream, WAGO, Draeger, Eaton (4), GE Gas Power, Genetec, Hitachi Energy, and Johnson Controls.

Boston Scientific Advisory - Boston Scientific published an advisory discussing the Access:7 vulnerabilities.

Broadcom Advisory - Broadcom published an advisory discussing the DirtyPipe vulnerability.

Carestream Advisory - Carestream published an advisory discussing the Access:7 vulnerabilities.

Ecava Advisory - Incibe CERT published an advisory discussing eight vulnerabilities in the Ecava IntegraXor.

WAGO Advisory - VDE CERT published an advisory describing a cross-site scripting vulnerability in various WAGO PLCs.

Draeger Advisory - Draeger published an advisory discussing the PwnKit vulnerability.

Eaton Advisory #1 - Eaton published an advisory describing a cross-site scripting vulnerability in their Intelligent Power Manager.

Eaton Advisory #2 - Eaton published an advisory describing a cross-site scripting vulnerability in their Intelligent Power Manager.

Eaton Advisory #3 - Eaton published an advisory describing a cross-site scripting vulnerability int heir Intelligent Power Manager.

GE Gas Power Advisory - GE Gas Power published an advisory discussing the Russia-Ukraine situation.

Hitachi Energy Advisory - Hitachi Energy published an advisory describing seven vulnerabilities (two with published exploits) in their RelCare product.

Johnsons Controls Advisory - Johnson Controls published an advisory discussing a deserialization of untrusted data vulnerability in their DSC PowerManage product.

Review - Public ICS Disclosures – Week of 1-29-22 – Part 2

For Part 2 we have four more vendor disclosures from QNAP, TI, VMware, and Fujitsu. We also have five updates from Boston Scientific, Dell, Hillrom, Johnson Controls, and QNAP. There are also 98 researcher reports for vulnerabilities in products from Gerbv (2), and Bentley (96). Finally, we have three exploit reports for products from Moxa (2), and WAGO.

QNAP Advisory - QNAP published an advisory discussing the Deadbolt Ransomware attacks.

TI Advisory - TI published an advisory discussing physical security attacks on ‘silicon devices.’

VMware Advisory - VMware published an advisory describing an information disclosure vulnerability in their VMware Cloud Foundation.

Fujitsu Advisory - Fujitsu published an advisory discussing 15 vulnerabilities in Insyde® Firmware.

Boston Scientific Update - Boston Scientific published an update for their Log4Shell  advisory.

Dell Update - Dell published an update for their generic Log4Shell advisory.

Hillrom Update - Hillrom published an update for their Log4Shell advisory.

Johnson Controls Update - Johnson Controls published an update for their Log4Shell advisory.

QNAP Update - QNAP published an update for their QTS and QuTS hero advisory that was originally published on January 13th, 2021 and most recently updated on January 25th, 2022.

Gerbv Reports - Talos published two reports of vulnerabilities in the Gerbv RS-274X viewer.

Bentley Reports - The Zero Day Initiative published 96 reports (ZDI-22-149 thru ZDI-22-243ZDI) about vulnerabilities in the Bentley MicroStation and MicroStation-based applications.

Moxa Exploit #1 - Matthew Bergin published an exploit for a firmware upgrade vulnerability in the Moxa TN-5900.  

Moxa Exploit #2 - Matthew Bergin published an exploit for a command injection vulnerability vulnerability in the Moxa TN-5900.  

WAGO Exploit - Gerhard Hechenberger published an exploit for an improper handling of exceptional conditions vulnerability in the WAGO 750-8xxx PLC.

NOTE: This was reported as a third-party (CODESYS) vulnerability, so this exploit may work (with or without modification?) on other vendor products.

Hitachi Advisory - Hitachi published an advisory discussing 35 vulnerabilities in their Hitachi Disk Array Systems.

Hitachi Energy Advisory #1 - Hitachi published an advisory discussing 36 vulnerabilities in their Transformer Asset Performance Management (APM) Edge products.

Hitachi Energy Advisory #2 - Hitachi published an advisory describing an insufficient security control vulnerability in their Relion® 670/650/SAM600-IO series Products.

Hitachi Energy Advisory #3 - Hitachi published an advisory describing an insufficient security control in their GMS600 generator circuit breakers.

Hitachi Energy Advisory #4 - Hitachi published an advisory describing an insufficient security control vulnerability in their PWC600 controllers.

Phoenix Contacts Advisory - Phoenix Contacts published an advisory describing a ‘zip-slip’ vulnerability in their Automation Worx Software Suite.

Gerbv Report - Talos published a report about an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the in the drill format T-code tool number functionality of Gerbv 2.7.0.

Public ICS Disclosures – Week of 4-24-21

This week we three vendor NAME:WRECK disclosures from Boston Scientific, Braun, and Rockwell. We also have 14 vendor disclosures from Beckhoff, Bosch (2), B&R Industrial Automation, MB connect, CODESYS (5), Moxa, ODA, and Texas Instruments (2). We have five researcher reports for products from Advantech (4) and Siemens. Finally, we have exploits for products from OpenPLC and VMWare.

NAME:WRECK Advisories

Boston Scientific published an advisory discussing the NAME:WRECK vulnerabilities, announcing that they are investigating to see if any of their products are affected.

Braun published an advisory discussing the NAME:WRECK vulnerabilities, announcing that none of their ‘connected devices’ are affected.

Rockwell published an advisory discussing the NAME:WRECK vulnerabilities, providing a list of affected products and fixed versions.

Beckhoff Advisory

Beckhoff published an advisory describing an improper input validation vulnerability in their TwinCAT OPC UA Server and IPC Diagnostics UA Server. The vulnerability was reported by Industrial Control Security Laboratory of QI-ANXIN Technology Group. Beckhoff has new versions that mitigate the vulnerability. There is no indication that the researchers have been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

Bosch Advisories

Bosch published an advisory describing seven vulnerabilities in their ctrlX CORE - IDE App. These are third-party (OpenSSL and Python) vulnerabilities. The next version of the product will mitigate the vulnerabilities.

The seven reported vulnerabilities are:

• Improper encoding or escaping of output - CVE-2020-26116 (exploit),

• Inadequate information (NIST ?) - CVE-2020-27619,

• HTTP request smuggling - CVE-2021-23336 (exploit),

• Integer overflow or wraparound - CVE-2021-23840, CVE-2021-23841,

• Classic buffer overflow - CVE-2021-3177 (exploit), and

• NULL pointer dereference - CVE-2021-3449

Bosch published an advisory describing an FTP backdoor in their Rexroth Fieldbus Couplers. Bosch provides generic workarounds.

B&R Advisory

B&R published an advisory describing an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability in their  I/O system and HMI components. This is a third-party (Siemens) vulnerability. B&R provides generic workarounds.

MB Advisory

CERT-VDE published an advisory discussing the DNSpooq vulnerabilities in the MB connect mbNET products. MB connect has new versions that mitigate the vulnerabilities.

CODESYS Advisories

CODESYS published an advisory [.PDF download link] describing a cross-site request forgery vulnerability in their CODESYS Automation Server. The vulnerability was reported by Uri Katz of Claroty. CODESYS has a new version that mitigates this vulnerability. There is no indication that Katz has been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

CODESYS published an advisory [.PDF download link] describing a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in their CODESYS V3 products containing the CmpGateway. The vulnerability was reported by Uri Katz of Claroty. CODESYS has a new version that mitigates this vulnerability. There is no indication that Katz has been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

CODESYS published an advisory [.PDF download link] describing an insufficient verification of data authenticity vulnerability in their Development System V3. The vulnerability was reported by an OEM customer. CODESYS has a new version that mitigates the vulnerability. There is no indication that the researcher has been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

The vulnerability was reported by Uri Katz of Claroty. CODESYS has a new version that mitigates this vulnerability. CODESYS published an advisory [.PDF download link] describing an improper input validation vulnerability in their V3 products and Control V3 Runtime System Toolkit. Moxa Advisory

Moxa published an advisory describing four vulnerabilities in their NPort IA5000A Series Serial Device Servers. The vulnerability was reported by Alexander Nochvay from Kaspersky Lab ICS CERT. Moxa has a new version to mitigate one of the vulnerabilities and workarounds for the others. There is no indication that Nochvay has been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

The four reported vulnerabilities:

• Improper access control - CVE-2020-27149,

• Unprotected storage of credentials - CVE-2020-27150,

• Cleartext transmission of sensitive information (2) - CVE-2020-27184 and CVE-2020-27185

ODA Advisory

ODA published an advisory describing an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in their Open Design Alliance Drawings SDK. ODA has a new version that mitigates the vulnerability.

NOTE: This is a very minimalist advisory.

TI Advisories

TI published an advisory discussing the BadAlloc vulnerabilities in their SimpleLink™ CC13XX, CC26XX, CC32XX and MSP432E4 products. TI provides generic work arounds for these vulnerabilities.

TI published an advisory describing an integer overflow vulnerability in their Networks Developers Kit. The vulnerability was reported by Omri Ben Bassat and David Atch of Microsoft. The product is no longer supported.

Advantech Report

The Zero Day Initiative published four reports for vulnerabilities in the Advantech WebAccess/HMI Designer products. The vulnerabilities were reported by kimiya and have been coordinated with NCCIC-ICS and an advisory from them is pending.

The four reported vulnerabilities are:

• Heap-based buffer overflow - ZDI-21-490 and ZDI-21-487,

• File parsing memory corruption- ZDI-21-489, and

• Out-of-bounds write - ZDI-21-488,

Siemens Report

ZDI published a report describing an information validation vulnerability in the Siemens JT2Go product. The vulnerability was reported by Michael DePlante. ZDI has been coordinating with NCCIC-ICS since last September.

OpenPLC Exploit

Fellipe Oliveira published an exploit for a remote code execution vulnerability in the OpenPLC product. There is no CVE provided and no indications of coordination with the vendor. This may be a 0-day vulnerability.

VMware Exploit

Egor Dimitrenko published a Metasploit module for two vulnerabilities in the VMware vRealize Operations Manager. The vulnerabilities were reported by VMware on March 31st, 2021.

The two exploited vulnerabilities are:

• Server-side request forgery - CVE-2021-21975, and

• Arbitrary file write - CVE-2021-21983

Public ICS Disclosures – Week of 3-6-21

This week we have seven disclosures from Aruba Networks (2), Boston Scientific, PEPPERL+FUCHS, Siemens, and Schneider (2). We have vendor updates for products from Siemens (2) and Schneider (2). There is a researcher report for products from Fatek Automation. Finally, there was an exploit published for products from VMware.

Aruba Advisories

Aruba published an advisory discussing the SAD DNS vulnerability in their Instant Access Points products. Aruba has new versions that mitigate the vulnerability.

 

Aruba published an advisory describing nineteen vulnerabilities in their Instant Access Points products. Aruba has new versions that mitigate the vulnerabilities.

Boston Scientific published an advisory discussing the Microsoft TCP/IP vulnerabilities. They report that they are looking into the impact on their products “that use the affected Microsoft Window 7 and higher operating systems”.

PEPPRERL+FUCHS Advisory

CERT-VDE published an advisory describing three vulnerabilities in the PEPPERL+FUCHS P+F RocketLinx products. The vulnerabilities were reported by T. Weber of SEC Consult Vulnerability Lab.  PEPPERL+FUCHS has new firmware versions that mitigate the vulnerabilities. There is no indication that Weber was provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

The three reported vulnerabilities are:

• Cross-site request forgery - CVE-2020-12502,

• Improper input validation - CVE-2020-12503, and

• Hidden functionality - CVE-2020-12504

Siemens Advisory

Siemens published an advisory describing an improper access control vulnerability in their Mendix Forgot Password Appstore module. Siemens has a new version that mitigates the vulnerability.

Schneider Advisories

Schneider published an advisory describing an improper restriction of operations within the bounds of a memory buffer vulnerability in their PowerLogic power meters. The vulnerability was reported by Tal Keren and Rei Henigman of Claroty. Schneider has new versions that mitigate the vulnerability. There is no indication that the researchers have been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

Siemens Updates

Siemens published an update for their GNU/Linux subsystem advisory that was originally published in 2018 and most recently updated on February 9th, 2021. The new information includes adding the following CVEs:

• CVE-2020-8625,

• CVE-2021-3347,

• CVE-2021-20193,

• CVE-2021-23839,

• CVE2021-23840,

• CVE-2021-23841, and

• CVE-2021-27212

 

Siemens published an update for their CodeMeter advisory that was originally published in 2018 and most recently updated on February 9th, 2021. The new information includes updating mitigation measures for:

• SINEC INS, and

• SINEMA Remote Connect

Schneider Updates

Schneider published an update for their Ripple20 advisory that was originally published on June 23, 2020 and most recently updated on January 12th, 2021. The new information includes:

• Adding mitigation measures for EcoStruxure Building SmartX IP MP Controllers, and

• Updating affected version information for EcoStruxure Building SmartX IP RP Controllers

 

Schneider published an update for their PLC Simulator advisory that was originally reported on November 11th, 2020. The new information includes announcing the development of a remediation plan for CVE2020-7559.

NOTE: NCCIC-ICS may not update ICSA-20-315-03 for this announcement.

Fatek Report

The Zero Day Initiative published a report of a 0-day improper validation of user supplied data vulnerability in the Fatek PLC WinProladder. According to the report, NCCIC-ICS was supposed to issue an advisory on this last Thursday. I would expect to see it published this coming week.

VMware Exploit

Mikhail Klyuchnikov published a Metasploit module for an improper privilege management vulnerability in the VMware vCenter Server. VMware reported the vulnerability on February 23rd, 2021 with new versions to mitigate.

Public ICS Disclosures – Week of 2-1-20


This week we have four vendor disclosures for products from Meinberg, Johnson Controls, Eaton and Boston Scientific. There is a researcher report of vulnerabilities in products from Proscend. There are also two exploit reports for products from Wago and Schneider.

Meinberg Advisory


Meinberg published an advisory describing 21 vulnerabilities in their LANTIME firmware. The vulnerabilities were reported by  Michal Bazyli and Jakub Palaczynski. Meinberg has new firmware versions that mitigate the vulnerabilities. There is no indication that the researchers have been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

Johnson Controls Advisory


Johnson Controls published an advisory [.docx download link] describing a third-party java script vulnerability in their Metasys Server software. This vulnerability is apparently self-reported. Johnson Controls recommends removing the Kibana service.

NOTE: There are a number of other vulnerabilities reported for the same Kibana open source product on elastic web site.

Eaton Advisory


Eaton published an advisory describing three vulnerabilities in their SMP Gateway. These vulnerabilities are self-reported. Eaton has a new version that mitigates the vulnerability.

The three reported vulnerabilities are:

• Heap-based buffer overflow - CVE-2017-2780 and CVE-2017-2781; and
• Integer overflow - CVE-2017-2782

NOTE: These vulnerabilities affect the processing of x509 certificates in establishing TLS or SSL connections.

Boston Scientific Advisory


Boston Scientific published an advisory for the Windows CryptoAPI vulnerability in their products. They report that they are unaware of any of their products affected by this vulnerability.

Proscend Disclosure


xploited published a report describing a remote code execution vulnerability in the Proscend M302-L / M302-LG series are industrial-grade 4G LTE Cellular Routers. There is no indication that xploited has notified Proscend of the vulnerability, so this may be a 0-day vulnerability.

WAGO Exploit


0X483D published a Metasploit exploit for an authenticated remote code execution vulnerability in the WAGO PFC200. There is no CVE provided for the vulnerability and no indication that WAGO has been notified. This may be a 0-day vulnerability.

Schneider Exploit


COSMIN CRACIUN published an exploit for an authenticated command injection vulnerability in the Schneider U.Motion Builder. This vulnerability was reported by Schneider in April 2018.

ICS-CERT Publishes 2 Advisories and 1 Update

Today the DHS ICS-CERT published one medical control system security advisory for a product from Boston Scientific. Additionally, they published an industrial control system advisory for a product from SpiderControl. They also updated a medical control system advisory for a product from Becton, Dickinson and Company.

Boston Scientific Advisory


This advisory describes two vulnerabilities for the Boston Scientific ZOOM LATITUDE Programmer/Recorder/Monitor (PRM). The vulnerabilities were reported by Jonathan Butts and Billy Rios of Whitescope. Boston Scientific has provided mitigating controls. ICS-CERT reports that Boston Scientific will not be fixing the vulnerabilities.

The two reported vulnerabilities are:

• Use of hard-coded cryptographic key - CVE-2017-14014; and
• Missing encryption of sensitive data - CVE-2017-14012

ICS-CERT reports that an uncharacterized attacker with physical access to the device could exploit these vulnerabilities to obtain patient health information (PHI).

SpiderControl Advisory


This advisory describes an uncontrolled search path element vulnerability in the SpiderControl MicroBrowser, a touch panel operating system. The vulnerability was reported by Karn Ganeshen. SpiderControl has provided a new version that mitigates the vulnerability. There is no indication that Ganeshen has been provided an opportunity to verify the efficacy of the fix.

ICS-CERT reports that a relatively low skilled attacker could remotely exploit the vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the target system.

BD Update


This update provides additional information on an advisory that was originally published on February 7th, 2017. The updated information includes:

• The identification of “Researchers at Zingbox” as being involved in the reporting of the vulnerabilities;
