PHMSA Information Collection Request Renewal

In last Friday’s Federal Register the Pipeline and Hazardous Material Administration (PHMSA) filed a notice that it was renewing three information collection requests (ICR) concerning a variety of paperwork requirements related to hazardous material shipping. The Office of Management and Budget is required to approve an ICR before an agency is authorized to collect information from the public, industry or other government agencies. Such approval must be renewed periodically. The three ICRs that PHMSA is requesting re-approval for are:
Rulemaking, Special Permits, and Preemption Requirements - OMB Control Number: 2137-0051; Radioactive Materials (RAM) Transportation Requirements - OMB Control Number: 2137-0510; and Subsidiary Hazard Class and Number/Type of Packagings - OMB Control Number: 2137-0613.
Public comments on any of these three ICR renewals may be submitted by June 8th. According the Federal Register notice, the OMB is looking for comments on “whether the proposed collection of information is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the Department, including whether the information will have practical utility; the accuracy of the Department's estimate of the burden of the proposed information collection; ways to enhance the quality, utility and clarity of the information to be collected; and ways to minimize the burden of the collection of information on respondents, including the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology.”
